Denmark Water Utility: Straight From the Tap
On behalf of the Denmark Water Utility, welcome the Utility's Website, designed to keep you - our customers - informed! The Utility faces the duty and challenge of making our water pure and safe while delivering it to our customers at the most economucal price.
Where Does Our Water Come From?
The Village of Denmark began providing public water service in 1917. The first well was constructed in 1917 and abandoned in 1981. Well 2 was constructed in 1937 and Well 3 was constructed in 1975.
The Village of Denmark is supplied by groundwater pumped from the Niagara Aquifer by the two wells located in the Village. Both wells incorporated gravity flow iron filters to reduce the amount of iron and manganese in the water. Chemicals added to the system are chlorine for disinfection, and Aqua Mag (a phosphate) to meet lead and copper regulations. An average of 300,000 gallons of water per day is pumped to 800 customers. Water is also stored in a 100,000 gallons reservoir and a 200,000 galon water tower.

The storm water utility is a program that manages rainwater, snowmelt and runoff. The storm water utility will maintain the Village's existing and future storm water management systems including retention ponds, ditches, storm sewers, roads and waterways.
Residential: Each single-family property is considered 1 ERU unit for the storm water utility. Each Duplex properties are charged 0.60 per ERU per side, or 1.2 ERU's per building.
Non-residential such as commercial, industrial, governmental and parking lots are site specific. Charges are based upon the actual impervious area located on the property. Calculations for the impervious area, please contact MiLissa Stipe, Utilities Officer at 863-6400.
