Municipal Court

The governing Village Board of Trustees, by ordinance, established a Municipal Court with the Judge being elected for a four-year term at the spring election. The current Municipal Court Judge is Shawn M. Brady assisted by the Municipal Clerk of Courts, Pamela J. Watzka. The Denmark Municipal Court handles citations issued within the Village of Denmark for traffic and non-traffic ordinance violations. The Court's primary function is to administer justice and hold individuals accountable for their actions when found guilty of local ordinance violations. The Court imposes fines and costs, collects those fines and costs, and imposes and collects restitution and other miscellaneous fees.

The Village of Denmark holds Municipal Court on the first Wednesday of each month unless otherwise indicated on the citation. Court is held at the Village of Denmark Village Hall, 118 East Main Street, Denmark WI. Court begins at 6:30 p.m. No food or drink is allowed during Court.

What Should I Do if I Receive a Ticket in the Village of Denmark?

  • Pay the ticket before the court date as stated on the ticket.
  • Appear in Court on the court date and enter your plea of "not guilty", "guilty" or "no contest".
  • Write a letter to the Court before the court date and enter a plea of "not guilty" at which time you will be sent a notice to contact the Village Attorney to schedule a pretrial conference.

If you do not take one of the above options, on the day you are scheduled to appear in Court, a default verdict of "guilty" will be charged against you. You will be sent a notice that the Court has found you guilty and that your fine will be due and payable by a certain date.

Failure to pay your fine by the due date will result in one or more of the following actions being taken:

  • A warrant will be issued for your arrest
  • Your driver's license will be suspended
  • Interception of your state tax refund will be implemented

Making Citation Payments Simple, Making Payments Online

Use your credit, debit or pre-paid debit card as the Municipal Court offers the option to pay fines and costs online through GovPayNet. You must have the citation available when making such a payment. The following basic information is needed when completing a payment online:

  • Pay Location Code: 7138
  • Name of the individual who received the citation
  • Date of birth of the individual who received the citation
  • Citation number
  • Amount owed
  • A valid MasterCard, VISA, Discover or American Express card

After you enter the Pay Location Code, you will be guided through a series of questions. Click on the Government Payment website address to begin the payment process. This site will open in a new browser window. Please note that GovPayNet is an independent company that charges a fee for its services. The Denmark Municipal Court receives no part of that fee.
