The Village of Denmark was incorporated on June 15, 1915. Later that year, the community created a Parks and Recreation program for its early settlers.
Master plans
Fast forwarding to June 2000 the Village retained the services of Ranger Services Inc and developed their first Urban Forestry Management Plan and created a Parks, Recreation & Forestry Committee to focus on parks and leisure (passive and active) opportunities for its residents.
The Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan for the Village was originally adopted back on June 6, 1994, and then updated in February 2001 and again on April 5, 2004.
Open Space
The Village maintains a variety of open space that is not officially parkland. These include the entranceways into the Village. The Three Miracles Earth art exhibit area is located on Pleasant Avenue and the Triangle Prairie Garden area is located on Green Bay Road. The central business district parking lot also features a small pocket park with a water fountain with fish.
Memorial Park
Memorial Park is a community park that consists of 30 acres of land with shelters, concession stands, two baseball diamonds, a tennis court, a wading pool, a skateboard/ice skating area, a playground, basketball court, picnic areas, a nature trail, a sledding hill, a tractor pull area and a creek.
The Lion's Club shelter is available on a "first come-first served" basis. The yellow enclosed shelter is owned by the Veterans and can be rented by contacting their treasurer at 863-2247.
The Village and the Denmark War Memorial Veterans have cooperatively worked together for several years in an effort to provide recreational opportunities to the Village and area communities. Recently the Village drafted a Memorandum of Understanding which attempts to outline the various arrangements that have been worked out between the various parties.
