Building Inspection

The Village inspects construction, wiring and plumbing for the safety of the public. A building permit is required for any new construction, or any remodeling that changes the structure from its original condition. Wiring may be done by the homeowner, but must be inspected. Likewise, remodeling or plumbing may be done by the homeowner, but must also be inspected. Any work that is done without obtaining the necessary permits will result in fines and the doubling of permit fees. In some cases, work done without the necessary permits may be ordered torn down or removed. It is important that you contact the Building Inspector before you begin work on your home!

The following is a list of required permits for one and two family dwellings:

• Any new construction (homes, additions, garages, sheds, etc.)
• Erosion Control
• Swimming pools (above and below ground)
• Fireplaces
• Wood Decks
• Building Demolition
• Plumbing
• Fence (height cannot exceed 6 ft in rear and side yard: fencing not allowed in front yard and must be set in 24" from side yard and rear yard with the good side facing the neighbor)
• Curb cut

Building Permits

BUILDING PERMITS can be applied for at the Village Hall Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 118 E. Main Street, or by contacting Norb Buresh. The building permit fee varies depending on the square footage and the work to be done. Fees will be collected at the time the permit is picked up at the Village Hall.

Information required before a building permit can be issued include.

1. Building Address
2. Name of Subdivision and lot number
3. Owner's name, address and telephone number
4. Description of work to be done
5. Size, sq feet, height, setbacks (front, back, left, right)
6. Copy of house plan
7. Copy of CSM or Subdivision on file
8. WPS energy worksheet
